The Brookville Optimist Club has a great ‘free’, family oriented event, the Saturday evening after Halloween. They call it a “Give back to the Community event” and it is just that!

With having the Metro Parks ‘Rail-Trail’ at the back of Golden Gate Park that is in walking distance to ‘uptown’ Brookville, it became a great, safe place to line with pumpkins and luminaries for families to walk and enjoy the beginning of the fall season. It also became a plus for them to be able to visit the train station and see the caboose that is parked in downtown Brookville, on the walking Rail-Trail. After that visit and they head back to the park, they are treated to fresh donuts and drinks.
When arriving back to the park folks can ride the big wagon, driven by horses for a ride around the park and then enjoy hotdogs and cider or hot chocolate while sitting around the big bonfire. The evening is completed by listening to a story from ‘The Storyteller’!
The evening is not complete though, without telling those in attendance to take as many of the pumpkins along the trail…home with them. The wagons that once held children are quickly filled with pumpkins, big and small and the walking course is quickly cleaned.
This great “Give Back to the Community” free event, is very ‘family oriented’ and all ages come and enjoy the evening!
